Grosse Monstrueuse de Lipari

$109.99

This medium sized French fig is green and pale chestnut brown outside with a red interior.

Gustavus A. Eisen, author of "The Fig: Its History, Culture, and Curing: With a Descriptive Catalogue of the Known Varieties of Figs" says that the original tree was "Found by (Dr.) Hogg in an orchard in Bouches du Rhône, France". Eisen also wrote that Grosse Monstrueuse de Lipari " ...is not identical (to Monstrueuse) "

We get first crop figs at the end of July. They are large, slightly syrupy, juicy and sweet. The inside is a different shade of red compared to the second crop. Second crop is a late fig for us in northern New Jersey. We are getting great figs that have a lot of juicy sweetness with raspberry flavors starting now in mid September.

Available in 5 gallon in nursery containers in Spring/Summer 2022
