It appears that the chance of frost is very low now. Our stock is out in full sun and many of the buds are starting to open. Many of the two crop varieties have small figs just starting to grow.
First Planting this Season
We have Rototilled the garden and this week we will plant mesculin and Buttercrunch Bibb lettuce seeds. Burpee has a great selection. We really look forward to this each year.
When we have some ready for the table we will show a simple but extraordinary salad recipe that lets the fresh lettuce stand out.

Soil Mix for Large Pots
We use a soil-less mix that we blend ourselves. Its made form peat moss, pine bark mulch, Perlite and lime. Osmocote plus will be added to the mix when we transplant the trees. We grow our trees in 20 gallon (#20) nursery pots from Gro-Pro.
Spring is here
Over the next couple weeks we will move the figs out of the garage and up-pot and fertilize them. We like to wait until the chance of frost has diminished. We are in hardiness zone 7a and the last average frost date is April 15th.
